“Labour Day- Pay respect to cleaners” Community Day

During the Labor Day holiday, about 30 students from secondary 1 to 5 in our school concerned with the people who need to work on the Labor Day, including cleaners and scavengers. Through walking into garbage room, students experienced pushing garbage truck and chatted with the cleaners and scavengers. Students experienced how hard the cleaning work is, and understood the importance of reducing waste at source. The community day increased the students’ civic awareness. Besides, students were brave to chat with scavengers and take the initiative to give bread to them. Students had also picked up waste-cardboards to scavengers. This could expand students’ empathy towards the poor by gaining hand-on experience. If we continue to care about the needs of people around us, Tin Shui Wai will be able to become a caring community!
