Students from the S5 Science class (5A CHUNG Cheuk-yin Alvin, LO Chun-kit, TSANG Tsun-ho, 5B SO Ching-hoi, 5E CHEUNG Kei-yin, NGAN Ka-ki) have recently participated in the "Made to Move Communities" academic challenge hosted by Connecticut-based, Otis Elevator Company. Led by Ms. CHOW Yi-man and Mr. HO Chun-yin, our students developed solutions to create better mobility and coped with challenges facing communities hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our students were recognized for their innovative thinking and won a championship over the teams in Japan and Singapore in Asian countries. Our vice-principal Mr. TAM Kin -fun took part in the prize-giving ceremony with the students to share the joy. While part of the cash prize will be used as subsidies for the fee of overseas courses and field trips, part of it will be used to provide financial support to students studying Science at our school in the future.

Our vice-principal, Mr THUNG Ming was interviewed by Sing Tao Daily on the strategies and reminders regarding the HKDSE elective subject, History. Mr THUNG reminded students to familiarize themselves with different question types before the exam and create a writing plan when attempting the long questions. Supporting the answers with evidence and adopting rational thinking are also keys to remarkable results.

With the consideration that learning of students will be affected when they cannot return to schools for a prolonged period, schools are allowed to arrange a small number of students to return to campuses to attend face-to-face classes in accordance with school-based arrangements starting from 11th January.
Under prevailing arrangements, only S.6 students will continue to return to YLLSS for on campus learning. Since the situation of COVID-19 is still severe, S.1-S.5 examination will be conducted in the form of “Timed-Take Home Assessment” starting from 20th January. Teachers and students, as a result, can take the time to relax themselves during the New Year holiday after the exam.
Although the effectiveness of online teaching may be lower than live teaching, it is asserted by our principal, Mr. WAN, that students are in good learning progress. To fight the epidemic, it is important that we stay alert and foster a sense of crisis.

In a recent interview with Sing Tao News on the topic of “School Dropout Wave”, Principal Mr. Wan revealed that 15 students withdrew from the school in this term. More than 30 S.6 students had decided to study abroad after graduation, with most of them receiving the offer to study in our sister schools before taking the HKDSE.
It is expressed by Principal Mr. Wan that the “wave” did not have a significant impact on our school and that the school did not plan to replace the dropouts with new students. Thus, student transfer application would not be processed until the end of the term.

Students from form three to five began half-day classes on 27th May under a phased resumption schedule, followed by lower forms next month. To prepare for their return, our school has spent HK$160,000 on infection-control measures, including ultraviolet light disinfection machines placed around the campus to sterilise books, laboratory equipment and other items. Online classes and make-up classes would also be provided to the 20 students who live over the border.

Schools reopen in phases today after nearly four months of class suspension because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the phased class-resumption plan, Hong Kong schools step up different disinfection measures. Our school has installed more faucets in the playground, sanitisers in the library and have re-arranged classes for students for infection control.

Our A cappella team H.O.A., the guest of the press conference of "Adventures to the Edge 2"

Sean Lee-Davies’ TV series "Adventures to the Edge 2" sounds the alarm in Hong Kong and across Asia about the environmental crisis facing the world. With the planet losing half its wildlife in the last 40 years and the real possibility that all ocean life will become extinct by 2048, there is no time to lose. The time for change is now. It is our honor to take part in the press conference of the sequel.
Our school’s frequent participation in environmental and conservation activities has been greatly recognized by TVB. H.O.A., our A cappella team was invited to attend the press conference of “Adventures to the Edge 2" on September 5, 2016. ?H.O.A. sang the song “All Things Bright and Beautiful” to proclaim environmental messages.
Through dialogues with host and media friends, the environment issue was emphasized. Ms. McCafferey, the Utan Eco-expert encouraged young people to spread its importance through social media, voluntary work and making donation to related organizations. Ms. Watson, a dolphin Eco-expert reminded the important 4Rs ─ Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Replace. Reduce plastic bags in our daily lives, use Recycled paper and etc. The conference brought new insights to our students realizing immediate action should be taken in order to save our world. It was truly an amazing chance to develop an informal and environmental participation in the press conference. |

Our students visited the Osaka City Minami Senior High School at 29 September 2015 during the 6-day Japan-Osaka Volleyball Training and Science Exploration Tour. The USA Tour 2015

Our visit to the USA was reported by the local city newspaper there – The Daily Clintonian, on 25 September 2015. It has introduced this exchange program and covered the schedule of the tour, together with a group picture showing every smiling faces. For the seventh year has this tour been hold, strong bond were built up between us and the South Vermillion Schools and people there, love and care are always the bridge no matter how far the distance is. A Daring HKDSE Warrior
